The two phone bill relationship

April 12, 2007

It’s one of life’s simple pleasures – making someone else laugh Coke through their nose.

I did it to my oldest son the other day while driving him to work.  I was telling him about my college roomates – and Ernie in particular – and how Ernie often stayed up all night talking to his out of state and emotionally disturbed girlfriend on the phone - until he got his second “bigger than the rent” phone bill.

Paralysis in the back leg

April 10, 2007

After softball practice I was driving my 10th grade son and his friend home and his friend told us that he had gotten a phone call (during practice) from another one of their friends.  This third friend who called said that his mother was in the hospital – she had been for several days.  She had ruptured a disk in her back and she was experiencing paralysis in the back of her leg.  We discussed what we could do to encourager her – maybe send a get well card or flowers.  Pray for her, etc.

The next day we found out that Dan’s friend had misunderstood the lion’s share of the information he got on the phone call.  It was his friend’s dog that was in trouble – not his mom, and the paralysis was in one of the back legs – not the back of the leg!

That’s good!  I’ve never heard of back of the leg paralysis anyway!

Snowglobe

November 19, 2006

A couple who continues to be one of our kindest lifelong friends took my wife and I out to dinner at the Bilmar last night.  It is the restuarant where I took her on our first date – right on the Lake Michigan beach in Grand Haven.  Not only did we get a great table by the window – it turned out that we were practically the only customers there – it was like a private dinning room!

The last time we were there with these friends, it was snowing outside – just like being inside a snowglobe.  What fun!
